Basic wiring tips and common wiring problems.

1. Get a hotrod wiring reference book, they have lots of good tips and can answer your questions.
Take a look at Hot Rod Ideas Library.

2. If you have or can get the factory wiring schematic get it, it can help in planing and understanding
your vehicle wiring.

3. Don't be in a hurry, plan your wire routes and take your time.

4. Check your connections, bad connections are a source of a lot of wiring headaches.

5. Make sure you have good ground connection. Bad grounds can cause a lot of unexpected
and intermittent results.

6. Don't expect to wire everything up and throw the switch. Check each circuit one at a time, this will
allow you to work on one problem at a time. Maybe fixing several at once. (i.e. fixing a bad ground)

7. Make notes and diagrams as you wire the vehicle, this will help you later when you add an
accessory or change something.

8. Keep the original harness, sometimes it's a good reference and you may be able salvage parts
and connectors from it.

9. Protect the wires, avoid sharp edges, use grommets when passing the wires through body panels
and chassis components.

10. Leave a "service loop" or slack in the wire near components. This will allow easier maintenance
or changes later.
